I admit it. I have a few “quirky” OCD tendencies.

Just ask my poor husband or a couple former roomates who have described me as the “Monica” (from the Friends sitcom) level of neuroticism when it comes to house cleaning standards.

After reading this article however, Nine Weird Habits of Highly Successful Business Leaders, I may not be neurotic enough.

Some of their habits are truly bizarre — only eating one type of food for weeks at a time — while some habits sound fun and doable, like things that could actually bolster productivity.

Take Nike CEO Mark Parker’s notebook for balancing out the right and left sides of his brain, for example. He uses one side of the notebook for brainstorming about business and uses the opposite page for sketching. This, I could totally be on board with. Remember how fun it was to doodle in junior high or while talking on the phone?

I like reading stories like this. It’s these sorts of candid details that make people “real.” And, there is a deeper lesson to be gleaned here — that people who make it in this world and emerge as leaders likely have more courage to own their eccentricities. They’re not afraid to march to the beat of their own drums.
